In the endless pursuit of the truth, I accosted Scott in the halls in the morning, asking him first for comment and then for some answers about the fish tree decision. At first, he avoided the issue entierly, covering up the foul stench of so many fish blossoms with even more stench-full jokes, then claiming not to be able to smell them at all. He first tried to say that the landscaper had personally chosen the trees to get back at high school children. "He used to be a principal and decided to plant the worst smelling trees around high schools because he hated children." After further prodding, he admitted to having no knowledge whatsoever as to who had chosen the trees, but he sent me in the direction of the super intendants office, and a "Mr. Boss" who supposedly would know who had done the landscaping. Of course, I wasn't taking notes as I spoke to him, and by the time I got somewhere that I could write in, the name was pretty unsure in my mind. Besides, I needed answers now, and durring school hours, I couldn't very well be wandering over to the middle school and the super intendants office within if I wanted to keep above suspicion.

I asked Logan, the Ceramics teacher who had some prior knowledge to most of the less-than-legal dealings in and around the high school, if he knew who had planted the trees. He told me I should ask Ms. Kravitz, another art teacher, and gave me yet another name in case she didn't know. This was rather disturbing. Not only did the teachers have no idea who had chosen these trees, they didn't even know who knew, let alone why. Having absolutely nothing to do in class with three things sitting in the kiln and two drying-but-not-dry-enough, I wandered into Ms. Kravitz's class. She said she had no part in the stinky tree choice, but gave me the name of the landscaping company that had done the work on the school. Finally, some results!
