Well, my computer got upgraded, I now have 64 megs of ram, and I figured I oughta test it out. Currently running VB, Notepad and Winamp and waiting to see if it dies. Figured I might as well rant while I wait, I know you all are so looking forward to hearing me ramble.
I have encountered my first real debugging problem. Considering I've been making VB prog.s on and off since this time last year, that's not too bad. It's incredibly frustrating, because it really should work! I've got three things that need to be checked to see if they're numbers. It can figure that out just fine. When I use that info to do something useful, the first one works, the third one works, but the second one is being a pain in the @$$! It's the same damn code! WHY ISN'T IT WORKING?!? Sorry, it's just really bugging me. It's a little more annoying than it should be because I just spent two days trying to fix one of those kick-yourself-in-the-behind problems which my Dad took 5 minutes to help me fix. Even he can't figure this new thing out, tho. I really am sorry to all the people out there who don't understand what I'm saying, I'm trying to keep it as simple as possible.
It's incredible that so many people don't understand the first thing about programming, but work with computers. I mean, they think they understand, but all they really know is that when they do this, that happens. Dogs can grasp that principal. It's gotten to the point where someone trains the computer, which then trains a person. Yes, they do train people. You're trained to click there when you want this to happen, but you don't understand what really happens when you click there. I don't understand much of the internal workings of a computer, but I'm at least beginning to grasp bits and pieces of what goes on behind the screen. How is it possible that something so vital to society, so important to our everyday life, is something that a large percentage of the populous depends on, but can't explain even the most basic proncipals of how it works. This is how technology will control the planet. People far smarter than I will create things so sophisticated that no one else can comprehend the inner workings, but is used everywhere, and sooner or later people believe blindly whatever is told to them.
